PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS TO CARNIVAL NIGHT
Attention Thacher Families!
It's finally upon us! Saturday night is Thacher's big annual event & auction. Thanks to all of you, we are looking forward to one INCREDIBLE evening! We are just shy of having 200 people joining us. Can you help us reach it by thinking of someone who deserves a fun night out?
We still could use some additional hands throughout the day for set-up, as well as volunteers for during the evening, and final break-down and removal of stuff from the venue on Sunday. Please let us know if you can help out, even if just for a few minutes. Many hands make for light work!
- Directions to High Output/Charles River Studios
Getting there is quite easy, if you look for it. We will have balloons tied to the sign near the street, but the sign is low and set slightly back from the street, so just keep your eyes out as you get close.
FROM THACHER:
Head south (toward Canton) on Rte. 138 (Blue Hill Ave.). Follow for approximately 4 miles. Turn right into the High Output driveway. Our entrance to the building will be well lit so you'll see where to go.
FROM I-93:
Take I-93 to exit 2A, which is Rte. 138 heading toward Stoughton (this is the opposite direction on 138 than if you were heading to Thacher). Follow Rte. 138 for 2.8 miles. Turn right into the High Output driveway. Our entrance to the building will be well lit so you'll see where to go.
- Tickets
If your tickets have already been purchased, simply check in at the door. No need to remember tickets. Your name will be on a list at the registration table. If you gave us names of guests, their names will already be listed. If not, they will be under your name.
Tickets will be available at the door, so it's not too late! If you were unsure of whether you could make it, we would still love to have you! Ticket prices are reasonable and include dinner, dancing, and a whole lot of fun!
And yes, there will be plenty of room for any guests you decide to bring last minute, so there is still time to gather your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, mail carrier, doctor, hairdresser, locksmith, lawyer, grocer, and anyone else you can think of and bring them along for a great night out!
- Dress
We are loosely classifying the "dress code" for the evening as "casual-nice". Keep the fancy suits & dresses in your closet. You'll want to be COMFORTABLE! Since there will be games, dancing, and opportunities to bounce around, wear something you can move around in. Slacks or jeans are great options.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Charissa Pemper at 617-669-5062 or Rachel Raifman at 617-308-7778.
Pick-up Basketball for Thacher Dads
An awesome idea from parent Ronnie Zielinksi! Ronnie's message: Out-of-shape Dad looking for like-minded Dads to play basketball one night a week. I would like to gather 10-12 Dads to play basketball at the Thacher Montessori School gym for 1 hour. If interested, please feel free to contact me, I am looking for suggestions as to time and day that works best for most. Contact: ronniezie@yahoo.com, 774.270.2170.
Thacher Parent Association Objective
The Thacher Parent Association is integral to the Thacher community, and all parents or guardians of children enrolled at Thacher are automatically members of the association. The TPA enriches the school community and encourages parents and guardians to participate to their utmost ability to foster a cooperative Montessori environment. The 2009-10 TPA is led by Tripti Thomas, along with Norman and Charissa Pemper, co-presidents elect for 2010-11. Sustained by a team of parent leaders and volunteers, the TPA aims this year to deliver a fun and meaningful agenda around the objectives of (i) further strengthening the parent community, (ii) deeply enriching the children’s experience, and (iii) supporting Thacher through resources and fundraising. There are many opportunities to get involved and contribute your valued ideas, time and resources: please contact Tripti or any of the committee chairs below for more information.
Show your School Spirit! Thacher Gear is Here! Thacher hats and t-shirts have arrived. Hats for $10 (Youth and Adult sizes) and T-Shirts for $8 (2t-Youth XL). Our gratitude to parent Bill Resnick for giving us a great deal through his print firm. Contact Norm Pemper at norm@wwdsinteractive.com for more information.

American Montessori Society National Conference
At the end of March, the American Montessori Society, the largest Montessori organization in this country, holds their national conference. This year, it will be held at the Copley Marriott Hotel (110 Huntington Avenue) from Thursday, March 25 through Sunday, March 28. I have been part of the steering committee for this conference, and we expect about five thousand people to attend. A number of our staff will be attending.
I am pleased to tell you that AMS selected Thacher Montessori School as one of the model schools for Montessori teachers from around the world to come visit and observe on Thursday, the 25th. Fortunately, we anticipate only about 50 or so to come for the visit!
I want to let you know about the conference because you may want to attend some of the events and sessions throughout the weekend. I especially want to point out to you two events that I think you’ll find of great interest.
The first is a special parent-oriented program all day on Thursday. Click here for more information about the parent-oriented program.
The second is a talk by Daniel Pink, the best-selling author of A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future and Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, on Sunday morning at 10:30.
Consider coming for other parts of the conference beyond these two events. You can find out more information at the AMS website.

TRAFFIC ETIQUETTE
Please adhere to the following guidlines when coming to Thacher for drop-off and dismissal:
- please do not turn left into Thacher from Blue Hill Avenue (Route 138) and do not take a left out of Thacher onto 138. To come into Thacher from the south, turn onto Canton Avenue, keep to the left around the bend, turn left at the traffic-light intersection on 138 and turn right into the school. To go north from Thacher: first, go south on 138 for 100 feet and turn left onto Canton Avenue, then bear left to the traffic light and turn right onto 138 north.
- please only pull ahead of another car at drop-off or dismissal if one of the staff members waves you on to do so
- if you arrive early in the afternoon for dismissal at 3:20, please wait in the Trailside parking lot (100 yards south and across the street) until 3:20. If you need to pick up your child early, please talk to Fred about a parking solution.
